Discuss at least one of the symbols from your own film that you have decided to focus on. Your film clip moment does not need to include the symbol as explicitly as the Fisher King clip does. What is most meaningful about this symbol for you? Be sure to include a concept from the overview or a resource that supports your interpretation.

Remember, you do not need to use an official MLA citation here. Maybe it is already a resource you are using to help yourself in understanding the symbol. This resource or reference should be something your classmates can access now. This resource would help them understand your application of the symbol in the film you chose and possibly apply in understanding the symbol’s applicability to their own filY HAS TO BE AROUND 150 WORDS DO NOT HAVE TO DO PROJECT ATTACHED JUST CHOOSE FROM LIST!!! LIT 229 Mapping Myth in Film Essays Guidelines and Rubric

Overview

This activity is designed to assess your ability to identify themes, symbols, and motifs that are common to myths within the American cultural context. You should watch your film and take notes. But do not attempt to complete your mapping questions until you receive your Module content in Module Five. You will select one of the films listed below as the focus of your “essays”:

In this paper you will fully address all five of the following mapping question prompts about your selected film:

Comprehension: List the details of the film: title, director, writer, year, actors/characters, genre, and plot summary. Feel free to use com to obtain this information, but the plot summary should be in your own words.

Example:

Title: The Fisher King

Director: Terry Gilliam

Writer: Richard LaGravenese

Year: 1991

Stars: Jeff Bridges (Jack Lucas), Robin Williams (Parry)

Genre: Comedy, Drama, Fantasy

Plot Summary: A former radio DJ, suicidally despondent because of a terrible mistake he made, finds redemption in helping a deranged homeless man who was an unwitting victim of that mistake.

Identify: Myth(s)/mythological material: Explain what myth(s) or mythological material the film contains in terms of their mythological name and function.

Example: In The Fisher King, there are several key characters that fulfill various roles. Parry’s character assumes the roles of “the Fool,” the “Knight Errant” and the “Helper.” Jack’s character is clearly “the Fisher King,” and Lydia is “the Virgin.” The character of Anne functions as “the Goddess.”

Assess: Briefly list several predominant symbols and their meaning

Example: There are several predominant symbols or motifs. The cup is equivalent to “the grail.” As stated previously, Lydia is “the virgin.” The “marionette” serves as Jack’s false self, one of the “bungled and the botched.” The fire functions as the “king’s wound.” The Red Knight represents Parry’s psychic wound and shadow. The video store serves as a repository of “mythic fragments.”

Categorize: Briefly list predominant allusion(s) to other myths or mythic material

Example: In this film there are several allusions. Specifically, we see an allusion to The Wizard of Oz in the fire scene. Jack’s use of the Nietzsche quotation is a direct allusion, of course. Less obvious, perhaps, is the allusion to Michelangelo’s The Pietà in the hospital scene where Jack is holding the wounded man.

Summarize: Briefly summarize the mythological meaning of the film

Example: Like the grail in the Fisher King myth, the film demonstrates that the sacred is always present. Unfortunately, our perception of it is often lacking. Whether it is the virgin Lydia whom Parry is too fearful to approach, the strange man Lydia is too fearful to love, the love that Jack takes for granted in Anne, or the friendship that emerges between Jack and Parry, the missing element is perception brought about by loss. Yet perception is gained anew after the heroic journey.

Format

Each essay response must be approximately two to five sentences with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and 1-inch margins. Any necessary citations must use MLA format; refer to your Course Resources area for citation resources and tools.

Section 1- Case 1

A telecom company, involved in mobile wireless services across the country, has about 5000 employees worldwide. This company has 7 regional offices across the country. Although the company is financially doing well, they continue to feel the competitive pressure. As a result, the company needs to ensure that the IT infrastructure takes advantage of fault tolerant features.

Current Configuration and Challenges:

– The company uses different applications for communication, accounting, and management. All the applications are hosted on individual servers with disks configured as RAID 0.

– All financial activity is managed and tracked by a single accounting application. It is very important for the accounting data to be highly available.

– The application performs around 15% random write operations and the remaining 85% are random reads.

– The accounting data is currently stored on a 5-disk RAID 0 set. Each disk has an advertised formatted capacity of 200 GB and the total size of their files is 730 GB.

– The company performs nightly backups and removes old information — so the amount of data is unlikely to change much over the next 6 months.

The company is approaching the end of the financial year and the IT budget is depleted. It won’t be possible to buy even one new disk drive.

Required Tasks:

Recommend a RAID level that the company can use to restructure their environment fulfilling their needs.
Justify your choice based on cost, performance, and availability of the new solution.

As a result, the company needs to ensure that the IT infrastructure takes advantage of fault tolerant features.

Current Configuration and Challenges:

– The company uses an accounting application that is hosted on an individual server with disks configured as RAID 0.

– It is now the beginning of a new financial year and the IT department has an increased budget. You are called in to recommend changes to their database environment.

– You investigate their database environment closely and observe that the data is stored on a 6-disk RAID 0 set. Each disk has an advertised formatted capacity of 200 GB and the total size of their files is 900 GB.

– The amount of data is likely to change by 30 % over the next 6 months and your solution must accommodate this growth.

– The application performs around 40% write operations and the remaining 60 % are reads.

Required Tasks:

Recommend a RAID level that the company can use to restructure their environment and fulfill their needs.
What is the cost of the new solution?
Justify your choice based on cost, performance, and data availability of the new solution.

Note: Assume a new 200 GB disk drive costs $1000. The existing controller can handle all commonly used RAID levels, so it will not need to be replaced.
